Ampleforth music teacher sentenced to 28 months for sexual activity with pupil

28/03/2017

Dara De Cogan, formerly a music teacher at Ampleforth College in North Yorkshire, has been sentenced today (28 March) to 28 months' imprisonment at York Crown Court after pleading guilty at an earlier hearing to ten counts of sexual activity with a child when in a position of trust. Two further charges were left to lie on file.

Claire MacDonald, from the CPS said: "De Cogan ruthlessly exploited his position of responsibility for his own sexual gratification, and it is hard to imagine a greater breach of trust. The effect on the victim of his crimes  has been devastating, and she has shown considerable bravery in reporting the matter to the police, and helping the CPS to present a robust case against him.

"This resulted in the ten guilty pleas for which he has been sentenced today, and I hope this brings her some comfort."
