A day in the life of a lawyer
The role of a lawyer is challenging, satisfying and varied. No two days are the same but here's a typical day of a CPS lawyer working in the office and at court.
A typical day for a lawyer may look something like this:
8am - You have an early meeting with two detectives who have arrested a suspect last night for murder. You consider the evidence and charge the suspect.
10am - In the office you prepare case papers on a fraud case that a colleague will present in the Crown Court next month.
11.30am - Following a telephone call with a police officer, you charge two suspects with burglary charging authority is sent to the police electronically
2pm - You walk across to the Magistrates Court to prosecute two trials
In the first trial, the defendant pleads guilty when he sees that the assault victim (his partner) attends court. He is sentenced to four months imprisonment.
In the second trial, the defendant pleads not guilty to dangerous driving. The trial proceeds. You cross examine the defendant. He says he did not jump the red light causing a major collision- contrary to the prosecution evidence. He is convicted and the case is adjourned for pre-sentence reports.
