Text transcript of video interview with Senior District Crown Prosecutor Colin Molloy

We have held the conference on crimes against elderly people because we recognise that with the benefit of other professionals and those involved on a personal nature with our victims, that victims tell us that they don't understand whether people will care for them.

They don't recognise that there is a service that can provide them with the support mechanisms to allow them to give evidence in court.

The message that we are giving out today is going to be very clear, that if you commit a crime against an elderly person those persons are considered vulnerable.

Where the evidence exists, the Code for Crown Prosecutors will be applied, where sufficient evidence is established, we believe the cases are so serious they will be presented to court.

And thereafter when victims come forward we will work with the police and other care agencies to allow them the best method of giving evidence in court.

Once they have done that it will give them the opportunity to have their voice heard and for justice to be done.

We want to remove the barriers that we believe exist and to give them the opportunity of presenting their cases in court.
