Hayley Firman, District Crown Prosecutor Birmingham Crown Advocates Department

She moved to Portsmouth in 2002 and continued to appear in the Crown Court. She moved back to the Midlands in 2003. In 2005, she became the District Crown Prosecutor for Solihull District. She managed a team of lawyers and administrative staff for two-years. During this time she did additional work for CPS Direct involved in advising the police from all police forces across the country on all kinds of cases. 

In 2007, she was appointed as the District Crown Prosecutor for the Crown Advocates Department in Birmingham and took the lead in developing the team of advocates and clerks. The team has 24 full time Crown Advocates ranging from Junior Advocates, who are still in the process of completing the training, to two Senior Advocates and a Principle Advocate.

Hayley has dealt with and built up considerable experience specialising in all aspects of criminal offences. She has been involved in a number of high profile cases, having been Junior Counsel in two murder trials. Her particular area of specialism is in cases of rape and other serious sexual offences.

She is a rape specialist and tutors the CPS Child Abuse Course. She was instrumental in setting up a designated Public Protection Unit in Birmingham involved exclusively in the advice and preparation of sexual offences.   She is a national CPS tutor and has been involved particularly in delivering the national training of Associate Prosecutors. She is designated to conduct Pre Trial Witness interviews and she is a designated prosecutor for The Revenue and Customs.
