Two men found guilty of sexually abusing a girl

Two men from Birmingham have today been found guilty of sexual abusing a 14 year-old girl.

Following a two week trial, Adeeb Sultan, aged 27 was found guilty at Birmingham Crown Court of two counts of sexual activity of a child and one count of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity

A second man, Raja Khan, 23 also from Birmingham, was found guilty of rape and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Nicola Heath, Senior Crown Prosecutor from the West Midlands Crown Prosecution Service's Public Protection Unit, said:

"Both of the men who have been prosecuted today took part in activities which they knew were criminal and now they must take full responsibility for their actions and deal with the consequences.

"Throughout this case Adeeb Sultan maintained a defence that he thought the victim was 16 years-old and was fully in agreement into what she was doing. However, he knew that the victim was only 14 years-old and that she was vulnerable due to her youth and her personal circumstances. He exploited the victim's weaknesses for his own gratifications.

"Sultan began to buy the victim's trust and affection by showering her with gifts, money, drinks and drugs. She in turn saw him as her 'boyfriend' and began to agree to all his sexual demands.

"Once he had her trust, he then began to exploit her and encouraged her to perform sexual acts with other men.

"Things turned violent one night when Raja Khan assaulted and raped her. The victim reported the attack to the police and the two defendants were arrested and charged.

"This has been a traumatic experience for a very young and vulnerable girl, and I would like to thank the victim for her tremendous courage in giving evidence at court and for her support for this prosecution.

"I hope this verdict can provide some comfort for her and her family, and it will help them to move on and rebuild their lives."
