Stoke councillor charged with theft

West Midlands Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has today authorised the police to charge a Stoke-On-Trent city councillor with theft.

Fiona Cortese, Crown Advocate from West Midlands CPS, said:

"I have advised officers from Staffordshire Police that there is sufficient evidence and that it is in the public interest to charge Matthew Fry, aged 32, with four counts of theft.

"The decision was taken in accordance with the Code for Crown Prosecutors.

"Mr Fry will appear at North Staffordshire Justice Centre on Wednesday 24 April 2013. He now stands charged with a serious criminal offence and has the right to a fair trial. It is extremely important that nothing should be reported which could prejudice this trial."
