New CPS head for Birmingham

Nigel Gumley has been appointed as the new Senior District Crown Prosecutor for the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in Birmingham, pending the departure of Nick Price, who will be taking up his new post as Chief Crown Prosecutor for North Wales.

Mr Gumley, who joins CPS Birmingham from CPS Coventry, where he has been their Senior District Crown Prosecutor since 2008, said

"CPS Birmingham has made significant strides forward under Nick's leadership, achieving marked success in the delivery of a range of prosecution activities. We all wish him the very best in his new post in North Wales.

"It is my intention to work closely with my new staff and our local partners in the criminal justice service to take us to the next level and provide the community in Birmingham with a high quality prosecution service of which it can be proud."

Mr Gumley will officially take over his new post on 31 August 2010.

Biographical notes

Nigel Gumley was admitted as a Solicitor in 1979 and was a partner of a firm of solicitors in Cardiff prior to joining the Prosecuting Authority in 1984.  He has formerly held Senior District Crown Prosecutor posts in Central London, Birmingham and Coventry/Solihull. He has also acted as the lead Area Business Manager for the West Midlands Group and as the Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS Warwickshire.
