Man sentenced to life for murdering his partner

Today at Birmingham Crown Court, David Paul Jones, was found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his partner, Julie Fenton, last year.

Madhu Rai, Crown Advocate for Birmingham Crown Prosecution Service, said: "This case is an example of severe domestic violence. David Jones had a history of mistreating woman with whom he had previous relationships with and he continued this abusive behaviour with Ms Fenton. His relationship with her was one of violence, pure jealousy and possessiveness.

"His contempt towards women, fuelled by alcohol, eventual led to the fatal stabbing of Ms Fenton, in what can only be described as an extremely frenzied and vicious killing, for which he has been found of guilty today and sentenced to life imprisonment.

"We hope that this verdict sends out a clear and simple message to victims of domestic violence - do not suffer in silence. The criminal justice system and our partners are here to support you.

"Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Ms Fenton and we extend our sympathies towards them."

David Jones will have to serve a minimum of 17 years before he can be considered for parole.
