21/03/2013

A 34 year old man has today been found guilty at Stafford Crown Court of the murder of Dalbagh Singh Malhi, 29, after he attacked him in the street with a knife on 13th May 2012.

Lee Shaw stabbed his victim in a street in Bentilee, Stoke-on-Trent in the early hours of the 13th May 2012, he had been at a house party on the same street.

Laura Jones, Senior Crown Prosecutor for West Midlands Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said:

"The defendant's argument that he acted in self defence has been dismissed by the jury with this conviction.

"Shaw purposely attacked Mr Malhi in an unprovoked and violent way whereby he took his life with multiple stab wounds.

"This is a tragic case where through the mindless actions of one another person has lost their life.

"Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Dalbagh Singh Malhi and hope that the conviction of Shaw for his murder today in some way helps bring this tragic case to a close."
