13/01/2011

Yesterday at Worcester Crown Court, Jason Halling, 29, was found guilty of murdering Kevin Smith, 47, at a wedding party on New Years day 2010.

Stephen Davies, Crown Advocate for West Mercia Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said: "Halling attacked Mr Smith at his sisters wedding party after he alleged they had an argument, hitting him, whilst he was on the ground, so forcibly that he caused serious head injuries to him. Other guests had to pull Halling off Mr Smith.

"Mr Smith was in no position to defend himself as he was attacked which happened in front of his family and friends and died later at hospital.

"Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Mr Smith and hope that the outcome of yesterday's trial will go some way in helping them deal with their loss."
