CPS extradites murder suspect from Ireland
West Midlands Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has successfully extradited Martin Stafford from the Republic of Ireland and have authorised West Midlands Police to charge him with the 2004 murder of Michelle Gunshon.
Anamarie Coomansingh, Special Casework Lawyer for the West Midlands CPS Complex Casework Unit, said: "Following the disappearance of Michelle Gunshon in December 2004, West Midlands Police conducted a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding this case and a file was forwarded me.
"Having reviewed the full file of evidence, I have decided that there is sufficient evidence to prosecute Martin Stafford, aged 43, for the murder of Michelle Gunshon on 5 December 2004.
"Extradition proceedings were then commenced, which were successful in bringing Mr Stafford back from the Republic of Ireland.
"He appeared before Birmingham magistrates' court this morning and he has been remanded in custody. His next appearance will be before Birmingham Crown Court on Friday 16 December 2011."
