Charging statement – Paul Slattery

David Rouse, Senior Crown Prosecutor from the West Midlands Crown Prosecution Service Complex Casework Unit, said:

"The Attorney-General has given his consent to the prosecution of Paul Slattery, aged 32, for the manslaughter of his daughter Caitlin Wetton after she sadly passed away on 4 June 2010 at Walsall Manor Hospital as a result of injuries which he inflicted upon her when she was a baby in November 2002 at the family home at Glenthorne Drive, Walsall.

"Following that consent, I have instructed the police to charge Mr Slattery with manslaughter.

"He has today appeared at Birmingham Magistrates court and has been remanded in custody until he appears again at Birmingham Crown Court on Tuesday 13 March.

"Detailed medical and other evidence will be served by the Crown upon the court and Mr Slattery's solicitors before that appearance."
