Uncle Sentenced for Toddler Rape and Murder

Michael Patrick Mullen (21) was today sentenced to life imprisonment with a recommendation that he will serve a minimum of 35 years, for the murder and rape of his 2 year old niece Casey Leigh.
Tom Klouda, a lawyer of the Complex Casework Unit for CPS West Yorkshire and junior counsel in the case said:
"It is to the credit of the Prosecution Team of Police, CPS and Counsel that this offender has been brought to justice so quickly. The evidence gathered mounted a formidable case against the defendant which left him no alternative but to admit committing these horrific crimes. Consequently, this case has been concluded within a short time frame enabling Casey Leigh's parents to see justice done without due delay."

- Michael Mullen was arrested on 12 February 2007 in the early hours of the morning, just a few hours after Casey Leigh was pronounced dead.
