R v Onwuzo Statement
22/06/2007
Nnamdi Onwuzo was today sentenced to 10 and a half years imprisonment, after pleading guilty to 3 counts of rape and 3 counts of robbery on 4 May 2007.
The case was prosecuted by CPS West Yorkshire Higher Court Advocate Nigel Wray, who was supported by CPS Prosecutor Jon Heath.
Nigel Wray said:
"The police and CPS West Yorkshire owe the fourteen year old girl who was robbed on the 4th January, a huge debt of gratitude. Her courage and bravery was an example to us all.
"I have no doubt that this defendant would have been caught by the hard work and diligence of the police. However, we at the CPS and senior officers in this case, acknowledge that her actions on the 13th February, remembering vital details from her attack on the 4th January accelerated the defendants detection, capture, arrest and successful prosecution."
