Mother and Partner Brought to Justice for Daughter's Death
10/08/2007
Peter McKenzie Seaton (22) and Sharon Wright (23) of Almondbury Bank, Huddersfield, have today been held jointly responsible for the murder of Letitcia Wright, the 4 year old daughter of Sharon Wright, and her live in partner Peter McKenzie Seaton.
The jury were not asked to return a verdict on the alternative charges of Causing or Allowing the Death of a Child contrary to section 5 of the Crime and Victims Act 2004.
Leticia's death occurred in November 2006. The cause of death was multiple injuries, namely forceful blows to Leticia's head and abdomen. These injuries had been inflicted between two and three days before her death and sha had suffered other injuries prior to these being inflicted.
As each defendant accepted their presence in the house on Almondbury Bank during the time in which the injuries were inflicted, and each denied that a third person could have inflicted them, the Prosecution asserted that it must have been either one or the other of the defendants, or both of them acting together, that brought about Leticia's death. The jury found that to be the case today.
CPS Prosecutor Malcolm Taylor said:
"Today's verdict is welcomed by the CPS. The evidence proved that a young child had been subject to prolonged physical abuse by thise who should have cared for and protected her, resulting ultimately in her death."
