CPS Takes Pride 2008
01/08/2008
CPS West Yorkshire will be one of many organisations represented at Leeds Summer Pride 08 on Sunday 3 August.
The third annual Gay Pride festival and parade in Leeds celebrates the wide cultural and ethnic diversity of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.
Millennium Square will this year play host to the pre parade main stage from 1pm. The parade itself kicks off in Millennium Square at 3pm and finishes in Briggate. CPS staff will be handing out leaflets and goody bags in Club Mission market area during this time and for the remainder of the day, to raise awareness of the CPS and the work it does with the LGBT community.
Chief Crown Prosecutor Neil Franklin said:
"We are committed to engaging with members of all the different communities we serve.
"It is hoped that by improving understanding of the Criminal Justice System among people from the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community they will have greater confidence that the system works. We hope this will encourage people to report hate crimes where they occur and be prepared to give evidence so that the guilty can be convicted."
After the parade the event will spill out into various venues across the town centre, with top DJs, performers, bands and other entertainment.
