Court Open Days

Court Open Days give members of the public an opportunity to see behind the scenes of the criminal justice system.

You may get the opportunity to visit the cells, take a tour of a court room and sit in the witness box.

You could even be a juror in a mock trial, sit in the jurors box and then go to the deliberating room to consider your verdict.

Pontefract Magistrates' Court will be the next venue for an Open Day when it opens its doors to the public for Inside Justice Week on 15 October. As well as finding out how courts operate you can also learn more about the other criminal justice agencies and how they work together.

Bradford Combined Court/Calderdale Magistrates' Court Heritage Open Days 10/9/05

Hundreds of members of the public took the opportunity to get behind the scenes of the criminal justice system when Bradford Crown Court and Calderdale Magistrates Court opened their doors for Heritage Open Day on 12 September.

Visitors will be able to get a guided tour of Calderdale Magistrates, and at Bradford Crown Court there will be special events including mock trials, fingerprinting, quizzes and puzzles, you can be a judge in a courtroom and experience a little taste of life behind bars with tours of the cells and courtroom areas.

Heritage Open Days celebrate Englands fantastic architecture and culture by offering a once a year chance to the public to visit properties that are normally closed to general admission.

This national event is co-ordinated by the Civic Trust and English Heritage and this year runs from Thursday 8 to Sunday 11 September.
