Key Roles and Responsibilities
CPS West Yorkshire employs approximately 330 staff in a variety of roles.
Crown Prosecutors
Crown Prosecutors review and prosecute cases following police investigation. For each case prosecutors consider whether there is sufficient evidence, and if so whether the public interest requires a prosecution. Our prosecutors also handle advice work, case building and advocacy.
Associate Prosecutors
Designated caseworkers present cases in the Magistrates' Court on a daily basis. They handle casework that includes guilty plea cases and road traffic courts.
Case Progression Officers
Case Progression Officers undertake casework functions in relation to files handled by assisting prosecutors in case management through processing and preparation of team casework, maintaining the case throughout its existence in court and after court.
Caseworkers
Our caseworkers play a vital role in ensuring cases are ready for court. They attend court, liaise with other criminal justice agencies and process casework.
Witness Care Officers
Witness Care Officers provide casework and general administrative assistance to the Witness Care Unit, in particular providing a single point of contact to victims and witnesses.
Administrators
Staff working within the administrative teams are vital to the smooth running of CPS West Yorkshire. There are various administrative roles in the area, which have different responsibilities, e.g. casework administrator, finance administrator etc.
