Working with our communities and other partners
Criminal Justice Partners
- We are part of the criminal justice system (CJS) working with organisations such as the Police, Courts, Prison Service and Probation Service to tackle crime, often working through your local West Mercia Criminal Justice Board.
Local Communities
- Our senior managers actively participate in the Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships and the Safer and Stronger Communities groups which exist in each local authority area. These groups include criminal justice agencies, local authority representatives and voluntary organisations all working to reduce crime and the fear of crime in your area.
- We also are actively involved in many initiatives within the area to help the victims and witnesses of crime. Specialist prosecutors work with voluntary sector organisations to seek ways of helping people who experience hate crime and we were part of the initiative which led to funding for independent domestic abuse advisers in each part of the area. These advisers help and support victims of domestic abuse throughout the prosecution process. We are currently involved in seeking funding for advisers who support the victims of sexual abuse.
- We have worked with people from the gay and transgender communities to seek ways to reassure the victims of homophobic and transphobic crime that we will prosecute crimes against them and support them through the process.
- We work with young people and help them to learn about the Criminal Justice System, for example our prosecutors often mentor them so they can take part in competitions where they undertake roles in a mock trial, such as being the prosecutor or judge.
- We also work with community representatives on our hate crime scrutiny panels to seek better ways of dealing with crime.
