Community Prosecutors

We are committed to listening to the views of the community to ensure we are fully informed of local problems and crime hotspots.

The community prosecutor approach was implemented in Southampton in 2009. It expands on the community enagement that we already undertake and will be rolled out nationally this year.

The three main aims of the community prosecutor approach are:

  • More community-aware casework decisions, by taking into account the concerns of local communities when considering the public interest test
  • Greater CPS involvement in problem solving of local crime and disorder priorities, building on the work already being carried out by the Anti Social Behaviour and other specialist prosecutors
  • Increased visibility to communities and other agencies responding to local crime and disorder concerns

We regularly attend community meetings, forums and events across the region to talk about the work of the CPS and address any specific issues people may have.

We know that in order to make the right decisions when considering whether to charge and prosecuting cases, we need to better understand the needs and expectations of our local communities.
