Behind Bars

behind bars

The Behind Bars campaign is a partnership between the Crown Prosecution Service in Dorset and Dorset Police to inform the public of Crown Court convictions and sentences.

This information is made available on the Dorset Police website for a limited period in order to promote the openness, transparency and accountability of the criminal justice system to the people it serves.

Kate Brown, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor, says: " The Behind Bars campaign is leading the way in ensuring that convictions and sentences are in the public domain. If a person commits a crime in Dorset and is sentenced to more than six months in prison at the Crown Court, their name and photo could be included on the Behind Bars web page on the Dorset Police website. We want to reassure the people of Dorset that as a prosecution team, we and Dorset Police bring criminals to justice."

Local Criminal Justice Boards

LCJB

CPS Wessex has three Local Criminal Justice Boards (LCJB) which bring together the Chief Officers from agencies within the criminal justice system. The boards work to improve public confidence in the criminal justice system and raise awareness of the agencies within it.

Current priorities focus on securing an increase in the number of offences brought to justice, caring for victims and witnesses of crime and improving public confidence in the criminal justice system.

The Chief Crown Prosecutor, amongst other staff, sit on each board alongside the police, probation, prison service and court service. For more information on your local board please visit::
