A 17-year-old teenager from Hilsea (Portsmouth) has been charged today with three offences of attempted murder and possession of a bladed article.

Anton Allera, District Crown Prosecutor for the Crown Prosecution Service in Wessex, said: "I have authorised  Hampshire Constabulary to charge a 17-year-old teenager, from Portsmouth, with three offences of attempted murder  in Portsmouth on June 20, June 29 and July 11, 2014.

"The first victim a 20-year-old woman  was attacked when she was walking on Southampton Road in the morning of June 20. The second victim a 45-year-old woman was attacked along the shoreline of Ports Creek in Hilsea in the morning of June 29. The third victim a 66-year-old woman was attacked around lunchtime on July 11.

"It is alleged that the 17-year-old teenager carried these attacks armed with a knife.

"I carefully reviewed all the available evidence provided to me by  Hampshire Constabulary and was satisfied that there was sufficient evidence and it was in the public interest to prosecute a 17-year-old teenager  with three offences of attempted murder and possession of a bladed article.

"He has been remanded in custody and will appear at Fareham Youth Court on Wednesday 16 July 2014.

"Proceedings are now ongoing and the defendant has the right to a fair trial. It is very important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings."
