New Chief Crown Prosecutor for the Crown Prosecution Service Wessex

19/07/2017

Joanne Jakymec, 44, was appointed to the role of the Chief Crown Prosecutor (CCP) of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) Wessex on 26 June 2017, replacing Kate Brown who has taken up a new CCP role within the CPS.

Following her arrival at CPS Wessex, Ms Jakymec said: "I am genuinely delighted to have been appointed as the new Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS Wessex.

"CPS Wessex is made up of a highly motivated group of people. Our staff are passionate and committed to striving for excellence to deliver a high quality service to victims and witnesses.

"They are also residents of the counties that we serve Dorset, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight and Wiltshire and are equally affected by the crimes that are committed in their communities and they do their upmost to bring offenders to justice.

"This can sometimes be a real challenge but our prosecutors are independent and strive for fairness whilst making their decisions in accordance with the Code for Crown Prosecutors, which has two tests, whether there is sufficient evidence for there to be a realistic prospect of conviction and, whether a prosecution is in the public interest.

"Although these decisions can sometimes be unpopular we aim to make the right decisions and to deliver a high quality service to the public we serve.

"We will continue to work closely with all of our partners, in particularly the three respective police forces in Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire to prosecute cases in line with our national priorities.

"Ensuring that the public has confidence in the service that we provide is one of my main priorities and to do so we will also continue to collaborate closely with members of the public who are part of our Hate Crime and Violence Against Women and Girls Scrutiny Panels. Those panels critically review finalised cases to help us identify where we get things wrong, what works, and how we can improve our service.

"Your feedback is really important to me and my colleagues so please do not hesitate to contact us, via our public enquiries team through the link that can be found on our website."
