20/01/2012
Matthew Hamlen was today at Winchester Crown Court acquitted of the murder of Georgina Edmonds.
Following the verdict, Ian Harris, Head of CPS Wessex Complex Casework Unit said : "This was a very complex case and the jury after hearing the prosecution and the defence case, has reached todays verdict. We respect its decision.
I would like to thank Hampshire Constabulary for their exceptionally thorough investigation, to all the witnesses who gave evidence in this case and to the many members of the public who assisted the police by responding to appeals for information.
My thoughts and those of the whole prosecution team are very much with Mrs Edmonds family for their patient support throughout this long and complicated investigation and prosecution."
