Man sentenced to three years for ABH on Police Officer

Craig Radbourne,25, from Newport Bagnell, Buckinghamshire, was today sentenced to three years' imprisonment at Winchester Crown Court for an offence of Assault occasioning Actual Bodily Harm. The victim was a Police Sergeant on duty in Basingstoke on July, 6, 2014.

Following the sentence, Simon Clark, Senior Crown Prosecutor for the Crown Prosecution Service in Wessex said: "Craig Radbourne launched an attack on Police Sergeant Kerry Lawrence on July 6, 2014 in a Basingstoke street, while she was acting in the ordinary discharge of her duty. Radbournes attack on Sergeant Lawrence was captured on her Body Worn Camera.

"She was forced to the ground by Radbourne who bashed her head to the ground on a number of occasions before making his escape. Fortunately, the officers injuries were not as serious as first feared.

"The defendant pleaded guilty to Actual Bodily Harm on a basis, which was not accepted. Accordingly there was a hearing during where the Judge heard evidence from Craig Radbourne and Sergeant Lawrence.

"After hearing the evidence the judge was satisfied Sergeant Lawrences account, supported by the recording of the Body Worn Video accurately reflected the true nature of the assault.

"Any assault on a public servant during the course of their duty is a substantially aggravating factor when considering sentence and this was drawn to the attention of the Court.

"We would like to thank Sergeant Lawrence for her assistance during the course of this prosecution."
