Llanelli man convicted of murder

A man who killed his girlfriend in a frenzied knife attack at their home in Llanelli has been jailed for life.

Dylan Harries, 22, attacked Katrina Evemy, 19, with a kitchen knife on 13 April, causing devastating injuries to her neck, eyes, stomach and back.

Her child was also present during the attack but was not injured. Miss Evemy was taken to Morriston Hospital in Swansea in a critical condition but died six days later.

Harries claimed that Miss Evemy had been stabbed whilst he was out and he had returned to the scene to find her lying on the floor.

However Swansea Crown Court heard that CCTV showed Harries making his way to the address earlier than he claimed, leaving 50 minutes unaccounted for when he attacked her. Text messages also showed the couple had been arguing earlier in the day.

Dean Quick from the CPS said: "Dylan Harries was responsible for a horrendous attack on Miss Evemy that left her with catastrophic injuries.

"The jury convicted him after considering a combination of evidence, including expert and CCTV evidence.

"The reviewing lawyer and I wish to thank all witnesses that came forward and Dyfed Powys Police for their thorough and professional investigative work.

"Our thoughts are with the family of Miss Evemy at this time."

Dylan Harries was ordered to serve a minimum of 27 years when sentenced at Swansea Crown Court on 16 October 2017.
