Kris Wade sentenced for Christine James murder

A man who murdered his neighbour at her Cardiff Bay flat has been jailed for life at Cardiff Crown Court.

At a previous hearing, Kris Wade admitted to attacking Christine James with a knife in late February or early March.

Mrs James was reported missing after she failed to arrive at Gatwick Airport for a flight to Florida.  Her body was subsequently found at her flat and, when police officers searched Wade's neighbouring flat, traces of Mrs James' blood were found.

Speaking after the sentencing hearing Janine Davies, District Crown Prosecutor for the Crown Prosecution Service Cymru-Wales, said: "Christine James was the innocent victim of a brutal and devastating attack carried out by Kris Wade.

"Wade has shown no remorse for this callous and fatal assault. Neither has he offered any explanation for what he did.

"A thorough and professional police investigation enabled us to build a strong prosecution case against Wade, resulting in his guilty plea. Whilst this at least spared Christine's family from having to go through a full criminal trial process, his guilty plea sadly cannot undo the terrible distress he has caused.

"Nevertheless, we hope that today's sentencing will at least give Christine's family some measure of comfort, as they continue to deal with her loss."

Wade was told he would serve a minimum of 21 years imprisonment before being eligible to apply for parole.
