Darren Jackson charged with the murder of Irene Lawless

The 26-year-old man arrested on suspicion of the murder of Irene Lawless at Llanllwni in Carmarthenshire has now been charged.

Iwan Jenkins, District Crown Prosecutor for CPS Cymru-Wales, said: "The Crown Prosecution Service has been working closely alongside Dyfed Powys Police as the investigation into Irene Lawless' murder has progressed.

"We can now confirm that, having carefully examined a file of evidence provided by Dyfed Powys Police, we have concluded that there is sufficient evidence to charge Darren Martin Jackson with the murder of Irene Lawless and that it is in the public interest to do so. Accordingly, we have advised Dyfed Powys Police to charge him.

"The defendant will appear at Llanelli Magistrates Court on Friday 27 January.

"This remains a very difficult time for Irene Lawless' family. They have been informed of our decision by the police and we hope to be able to meet with them soon to explain the trial process and answer any questions they may have.

"Darren Jackson now stands charged with a extremely serious criminal offence and has the right to a fair trial. It is extremely important that nothing should be published that could prejudice his trial."
