Cardiff sports coach jailed for six years

30/09/2016

Luke Griffin, a sports coach from Cardiff, was sentenced to six years imprisonment at Cardiff Crown Court earlier today for sexual assault and false imprisonment of a number of very young girls and one boy in his care. On arrest, Griffin was found to have videoed and photographed a number of the assaults and stored them on his computer.

Speaking after the sentencing Wendy Brady, Senior Crown Prosecutor for the Crown Prosecution Service Cymru-Wales Rape and Serious Sexual Offences Unit, said:

"Luke Griffin abused a position of trust by repeatedly sexually assaulting children in his care.  He was trusted to escort his young victims to sports events, but instead he took the opportunity to abuse them.

"His particular foot fetish was described by a number of his victims and the similarities in their accounts added to the strength of the evidence against him.

"I hope that today's sentencing will be of some comfort to his young victims as well as their families, who continue to support them in dealing with the effects of Griffin's actions."
