Local Scrutiny Involvement Panel (Strategic)
The CPS Thames and Chiltern Local Scrutiny Involvement Panel (Strategic) was previously known as the Community Involvement Panel.
The panel remit has changed slightly to ensure that we engage with communities and partners to improve our performance and to link this panel to the Local Scrutiny Involvement Panel (Operational), previously known as the Hate Crime Scrutiny Panel. This will help to better-inform the direction of our Community Engagement Strategy.
The purpose of the Local Scrutiny Involvement Panel Strategic is to 1) engage with communities and partners across the Thames and Chiltern Area on an ongoing basis; 2) to provide a platform for community members to undertake scrutiny of CPS business and services to influence strategy and decision-making at the Area level; 3) to be linked to the Local Scrutiny Involvement Panel (Operational) in order to identify cases of interest that emerge from performance data analysis and feed into the overall strategy for community engagement and; 4) to provide an opportunity for the CPS to inform, consult, and work in partnership with community, voluntary and public sector partners on the design and delivery of the following aspects:
- Area strategy and planning
- Business Plans and service delivery
- Local and national Equality Strategy and Diversity Plans
- Community Engagement planning, methods and practices
- Improvements to performance outcomes in relation to hate crime, domestic violence, rape, victims and witnesses - including honour-based violence - and other themes that impact on the lives of local people
- Meet the requirements of Core Quality Standard 12 with regard to identifying and addressing local crime and disorder concerns, including anti-social behaviour.
The panel, made up of the Chief Crown Prosecutor, the Area Business Manager and community partners, helps the CPS to understand what concerns the communities have about our business and legal services. Discussions have led to important improvements in the way that we communicate with victims and witnesses of crime based on the advice given by community members.
We are constantly seeking interest from community members who have an interest in criminal justice and have expertise in a particular field. If you would like to explore becoming a member of this panel please contact Inder Kaur Singh on Inderpal.kaur-singh@cps.gsi.gov.uk or telephone on 0118 908 2509.
