Where we work

Serving a population of some three and a half million people, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in Thames and Chiltern covers the counties of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire.

The five counties are structured in line with the Thames Valley, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire police forces, from a total of 12 CPS Areas in England and Wales, plus CPS London.

Berkshire

The Berkshire CPS branch is in Reading, working to Reading Crown Court Centre and to the magistrates' courts in Reading, Newbury, Bracknell, Slough and Maidenhead. This office is also home to the Thames and Chiltern Area Headquarters.

Oxfordshire

The Oxfordshire CPS branch is in Cowley and works to a combined Crown and County Court centre in Oxford, as well as serving magistrates' courts in Oxford and Banbury. This office is home to the Complex Casework Unit (CCU) which handles the more serious cases for the Thames and Chiltern Area.

Buckinghamshire

The Buckinghamshire CPS branch is located in Aylesbury, working to Aylesbury Crown Court - sitting at Amersham - and serving magistrates' courts centres in Aylesbury, Milton Keynes and High Wycombe.

Each office also accommodates a Witness Care Unit.  These units are staffed with CPS and Thames Valley Police employees to provide a support service to victims and witnesses.

Hertfordshire

Hertfordshire's main CPS branch is in St Albans, which works to St Albans Crown Court and to magistrates' courts in Stevenage, Hertford, St Albans and Watford. There is a second CPS office in Stevenage.

Bedfordshire

Bedfordshire's CPS branch is in Luton, which works to Luton Crown Court and to magistrates' courts in Bedford and Luton.
