Thames and Chiltern Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has authorised officers from Thames Valley Police to charge a woman with murder.

Fiaz Begum Munshi, aged 38, of Manley Road, Oldham, Lancashire, was arrested on Tuesday, 22 October, and has been charged in connection with a fatal house fire, which occurred in Magdalen Road, Cowley, on Tuesday, 26 August 1997.

Majid Khan, aged 15, and Anum Khan, aged 8, died as a result of the fire.

Ruth Bowskill, Temporary Chief Crown Prosecutor for Thames and Chiltern Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said: "Following an investigation by Thames Valley Police, a file was forwarded to us to consider whether any criminal charges could be brought against Fiaz Munshi.

"Having carefully reviewed all of the available evidence, Thames and Chiltern CPS authorised officers from Thames Valley Police to charge Fiaz Munshi with two charges of murder.

"The charges are in relation to a house fire, which caused the deaths of 15-year-old Majid Khan and 8-year-old Anum Khan in August 1997.

"The decision to charge was taken in accordance with the Code for Crown Prosecutors."

Munshi has been remanded in police custody to appear at Oxford Magistrates' Court today, Thursday, 24 October 2013.
