Two men jailed for possession of cocaine and heroin - St Albans

Two men found in a car in Hoddesdon with a large quantity of cocaine and heroin have today, Thursday, 24 April 2014, been jailed.

The pair were stopped in Ware Road close to the BP petrol station by police on 03 December last year.  As officers approached the car, they could smell cannabis.  But it was when they searched the vehicle, a Seat Leon, that they discovered 140 wraps of heroin worth £2,800 in street deals, along with 118 wraps of crack cocaine worth £2,360.

Today, Abiodun Hassan, 23, and Ashton Williams-Graham, 22, appeared for sentence.  Hassan had earlier pleaded guilty to two charges of possessing a controlled drug of Class A with intent.  Williams-Graham had denied the two offences and had been convicted by a jury earlier this year.

The court was told that Hassan, of Marlow Road, Walthamstow, had almost a thousand pounds on him.  He took responsibility for the drugs and the court was told Williams-Graham, of Marconi Road, Leyton, E10, had been acting as a driver.

The court was also told the pair had been involved in supplying the drugs and, passing sentence on them, Judge John Plumstead said they had been preying on the weakness of others addicted to the drugs.

He jailed Hassan for three years and three months, giving him credit for his guilty pleas, and jailed Williams-Graham for five years.
