Two men found guilty of kidnapping and torturing a man - Luton

Two men were found guilty of kidnapping and torturing a Luton man on Friday, 18 May 2012, at Luton Crown Court.

Julian Hughes-John, aged 31, from Luxembourg Close, Luton and Dean Reaside, aged 23, from Stephens Close, Luton had been charged with Kidnap and Grievous Bodily Harm in connection with an incident which happened in Luton on 24 March, 2011.

The jury had heard how keen sighted police officers had spotted a van parked in Selsey Road, Luton and when the officers tried to speak to the van driver, Dean Wright, he drove away.

The van stopped a short distance away and Hughes-John together with Raeside ran away from the scene. On checking the inside of the vehicle officers were shocked to find a 32-year-old Luton man tied up and telling them he had been kidnapped as he walked home along Colin Road close to the junction of Stockingstone Road that evening.

The man had been subjected to an assault and was taken to hospital for treatment and the removal of a 6" drill bit from his ankle that had been used to torture him.

Julian Hughes-John had appeared before the court previously but the trial had resulted in a hung jury.

This was the first time Dean Raeside had been the subject of a trial in connection with this incident.

Dean Wright, aged 27, from Rivergate House, Luton, had appeared before Luton Crown Court on 08 September, 2011 and had pleaded guilty to GBH and was found guilty of Kidnap.

Kevin Hattle, aged 32, from Chesford Road, Luton had been charged with perverting the course of justice in connection with this incident and he had already pleaded guilty to this charge at a previous court hearing.

All four will now re-appear before Luton Crown Court at a date to be set for sentencing.
