Two men were today, Tuesday, 17 December 2013, convicted of sexual offences after a two week trial at Reading Crown Court.

Mohammed Sajad Asghar, aged 22, from Carnarvon Road, Reading, was found guilty by a unanimous verdict of one count of oral rape, one count of aiding and abetting Toseef Mahmood to commit oral rape, one count of aiding and abetting an unknown third man to commit oral rape, one count of sexual assault, and one count of attempted rape. He had pleaded guilty on 22 November 2013, to one count of theft.

Toseef Mahmood, aged 23, from Cumberland Road, Reading, was found guilty by a unanimous verdict of one count of oral rape, one count of aiding abetting Mohammed Asghar to commit oral rape, and one count of aiding and abetting an unknown third man to commit oral rape.

On Saturday, 05 November 2011, the men phoned the 17-year-old victim, who had met one of the men once previously through mutual friends, and asked her to meet them at Purley Park, Purley-on-Thames, with some of her friends.

Asghar and Mahmood arrived in a car with three other Asian men. From the outset, they were overtly sexual in their behaviour towards the victim and her friends, making sexual comments, exposing themselves, and touching the girls inappropriately.

The victim was separated from her friends and taken by the men to a secluded area of the park. She was surrounded by the group and kicked and pushed to the ground and sexually assaulted. Following the assaults, her mobile phone was stolen from her.

As well as the brutality of the sexual assaults, she also received bruising to her legs and arms, swelling to her foot and knee and tenderness to the back of her neck.

Both men have been remanded in custody and will be sentenced at Reading Crown Court on Friday, 17 January 2014.
