Three sentenced following murder of Billy Dove - Hemel Hempstead

17-year-old Darren McGrath has today, Friday, 29 June 2012, been sentenced to a minimum of 14-years in prison for the murder of Billy Dove in Hemel Hempstead, which occurred on 06 November 2011.

Billy had been on a night out with friends when he was stabbed in the town centre.  Darren McGrath, who is from Essex Mead, Hemel Hempstead pleaded guilty to murder on 03 May - just five days before he was due to go on trial.

18-year-old Charlie Samson from St Agnells Lane, Hemel Hempstead, who had also changed his plea on 03 May to guilty for affray, was given a sentence of 112 days in prison.  However, he was released due to the time he had already spent in custody.

21-year-old Carl Williams, of Barnacres Road, Hemel Hempstead pleaded guilty to affray on 14 May. He has been given a 12-month community order.

19-year-old Ben Sears from Belsize Road, Hemel Hempstead, who pleaded guilty to affray on 19 March, will be sentenced at a later date.
