Priest jailed for child sex offences - Windsor, Bournemouth and Isle of Wight

A man appeared at Reading Crown Court on Thursday, 04 December 2014, and was jailed for six years after pleading guilty to child sex offences committed when he was a priest.

Michael Feben, aged 75, of Medina Avenue, Newport, Isle of Wight pleaded guilty to six offences relating to three victims, who were all boys aged between 11 and 13 when the offences were committed between 1965 and 1979 in Windsor, Bournemouth and the Isle of Wight.

He received sentences as follows:

  1. Indecent assault on male, between 1965 and 1967, at St Edwards Church, Alma Road, Windsor - two years imprisonment
  2. Indecent assault on male, between 1965 and 1967 (diverse occasions), at St Edwards Church, Alma Road, Windsor - 40 months imprisonment
  3. Indecent assault on male, between 1965 and 1966, at St Edwards Church, Alma Road, Windsor - 16 months imprisonment
  4. Indecent assault on male, between 1965 and 1966 (diverse occasions), at St Edwards Church, Alma Rd, Windsor - 32 months imprisonment
  5. Indecent assault on male, between January 1966 and December 1966, at a residential address on the Isle Of Wight - 16 months imprisonment
  6. Indecent assault on male, between 1978 and 1979 at Annunciation Church, Charminster, Bournemouth - eight months imprisonment.

The sentences for 1 and 2 will run concurrent to each other.  The sentences for 3, 4, 5 and 6 will run concurrent with each other, but consecutive to the sentences for 1 and 2.  Hence a combined total sentence of 72 months/six years imprisonment.  A Sexual Offences Protection Order (SOPO) was also imposed, which prohibits Feben having unsupervised contact with males aged under 18.
