A one-legged pensioner from Luton was jailed for 18 years today, Friday, 30 January 2015, for sex crimes going back to the 1970s.

Edward McCulloch, aged 76, of Spandow Court, Elizabeth Street was found guilty after a trial of four counts of raping a girl when she was aged 7 and 8. He was also convicted of two charges of indecently assaulting another girl, aged between 3 and 7.

A jury found him guilty of two charges of rape, two of buggery and two of indecent assault on a woman. He had pleaded guilty to raping and indecently assaulting another victim.

At his trial last month, McCulloch, who lost his right leg in 1943, told the jury at Luton Crown Court that the offences had not happened.
