More than 40 years in prison for drug gang - Hertfordshire

Thirteen people have been sentenced to more than 40 years in prison following a proactive operation by Hertfordshire Constabulary’s Serious and Organised Crime Group to target those involved in dealing drugs.

More than 160 officers were involved Operation Pagoda, which saw 13 warrants being carried out at dawn on 08 May 2013, under the misuse of drugs act. The intelligence led operation had been planned over a number of months to target those involved the 'Mario Line.' The warrants were carried out at addresses in Watford, Bushey, St Albans, Borehamwood and Harrow.

The line, which was a sophisticated operation, had been run by Besnik Sinanaj, until his arrest in April 2013, in Falmouth for a separate offence of possession with intent to supply. He was subsequently charged further on 08 May in connection with Operation Pagoda. Following his arrest, Brezar and Brigal Culaj ran the operation until their arrests in May.

Calls to the 'Mario Line' between May 2012 and May 2013 totalled 99,000. The deals of cocaine were sold for between £40 and 350 and were of a high purity and over £4 million pounds worth were sold during that period.

The group were sentenced on Friday, 14 and Monday, 17 February at Harrow Crown Court. They had all pleaded guilty at earlier hearings at the same court.

The following were sentenced for conspiracy to supply Class A drugs:

  • Besnik Sinanaj (Mario), aged 35, from Royalist Court in Falmouth, was sentenced to ten years imprisoment.
  • Brezar Culaj, aged 30, from Chencuit Way, Stanmore, was sentenced to six years eight months imprisonment.
  • Brigal Culaj, aged 31, from Ganders Ash in Watford, was sentenced to six years eight months imprisonment.
  • Fation Sinanaj, aged 27, from High Road, Bushey Heath, was sentenced to five years four months imprisonment.
  • Reoland Sinanaj, aged 34, from Draycott Avenue in Harrow, was sentenced to five years four months imprisonment.
  • Sajmir Xhakrosa, aged 35, from Turnberry Court in Watford, was sentenced to four years six months imprisonment.

The following were sentenced for substantive drugs supply:

  • Claudiu Surluceanu, aged 26, from Enderby Road in Harrow, was sentenced to 20 months imprisonment.
  • Ibadula Genghiz, aged 43, from Toorack Road in Harrow, was sentenced to 20 months imprisonment.
  • Adrian Spulber, aged 33, from Furzehill Road in Borehamwood, was sentenced to 20 months imprisonment.
  • Grigore Scripcaru, aged 31, from Montrose Road in Harrow, was sentenced to 20 months imprisonment.
  • James Tweddle, aged 43, from Mendip Road in Bushey, was given a 9 month sentence suspended for 18 months and was ordered to complete 120 hours of unpaid work.
  • Samantha Valaydon, aged 40, from Park Road in Bushey, was given a 12 month sentence suspended for 18 months with a six month drug rehabilitation requirement.

Eridjon Canameti was sentenced to two years imprisonment for possession with intent to supply.
