Married couple plead guilty to fraud and deception offences at Huntington Crown Court

15/06/2009

CPS Thames and Chiltern Complex Casework Unit lawyer, Adrian Roberts said that people should not be embarrassed to be taken in by plausible fraudsters.

"Todays hearing sends out a strong message to the public that it doesnt matter who you are, anyone can find themselves the subject of fraud.  This case demonstrates how fraudsters can come in all guises and present as plausible and upstanding members of the community.  Mrs Jerome was a professional primary school teacher who was prepared to defraud a long standing friend, and others, with her husband, who convincingly posed as a successful business man.

"Victims should not be embarrassed to come forward and report instances of suspected fraud as the CPS will take all cases seriously and will rigorously prosecute where there is sufficient evidence to do so.  As in this case, which resulted in Mr and Mrs Jerome pleading guilty today, the CPS will work closely with the police and bring perpetrators of fraud to justice."
