Man sentenced for serious sexual assaults on six year old girl

A man has today been sentenced for serious sexual assaults on a six year old girl.

John White (69), from Bicester, pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to three offences committed during October 2010, when the child had been visiting his home to play with his grandson. Today at Oxford Crown, Court White was jailed for six years and will be placed on the sex offenders' register for life.

CPS Senior Crown Prosecutor, Rebecca Waller, said after the hearing:

'These were horrendous offences committed by a trusted family friend. Once he was found out, John White pleaded guilty, which at least means that the victim's family do not have to give evidence at a trial. White has now been brought back before the courts and the sentence given to him today recognises the severity of the offence and the vulnerability of the little girl.

'Furthermore, the Judge has granted the CPS its application for a Sexual Offender's Prevention Order, which specifies that on his release from prison, the defendant is not allowed to live within a mile of his victim's home.

'We hope today's outcome means the victim and her family can now move forward with their lives and begin to put this terrible episode behind them.'
