Man sentenced for murder - Amersham

06/07/2012

A 39-year-old man convicted of the murder of Ryan Cronin in Amersham has today, Friday, 06 July 2012 been sentenced at Reading Crown Court to life imprisonment and is to serve a minimum term of 16-years.

Andrew Lambert, from Woodlands Road, Nash Mills, Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, was found guilty of the murder at Reading Crown Court on Monday, 02 July 2012.

Lambert killed 41-year-old Ryan Cronin at his home in Quarrendon Road, Amersham, on 03 August last year.

Baljit Ubhey OBE, Chief Crown Prosecutor for Thames and Chiltern Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said: "We have worked closely with the police since this investigation was launched.  This was a tragic crime, which led to the untimely death of Ryan.

"The jury found that there was overwhelming evidence against Lambert and the jurors were in no doubt that he caused the death of Ryan, despite his denials.

"The Crown Prosecution Service praises the strength and courage of Ryan's family who sat through the trial and listened to the horrific details of how Ryan was killed in his own home last summer by a so called friend.

"Lambert has today been sentenced to life imprisonment and is to serve a minimum term of 16-years.  However, no matter how long the prison sentence is, nothing can make up for the loss felt by the family and friends of Ryan.  Our thoughts are very much with them at this time."

Detective Superintendent Rob Mason, from the Thames Valley Police Major Crime Team, said: "Ryan Cronin was subjected to a vicious attack in his own home by a man he considered to be a friend.  In court it was established that Lambert had admitted stabbing Ryan to others, but did not at any time contact the police.  Even on arrest he denied the offence until faced with evidence that left him with little choice but to admit being involved.

"Ryan's family, who were present in court during the trial, has shown great dignity throughout the prosecution.  I hope the Jury's verdict helps them in some way to cope with the loss of Ryan."
