Man jailed for sexually abusing two young girls - Hertford

A man was jailed for 3 years today, Friday, 17 February 2017, for sexually abusing two young girls.

Geoffrey Wright, aged 70, of New Road, Hertford, was found guilty by a jury of sexually assaulting a girl aged under 13 by a majority of 10 to 2. The jury at St Albans Crown Court also unanimously convicted him of inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity and two counts of exposure.  They had been deliberating for just over 5 hours and cleared him of one other count of sexually assaulting a child aged under 13.

Neil Fitzgibbon, defending, said Wright was of previous good character. "He is terrified of the consequences of imprisonment," he said.

Recorder Patrick Fields said he read about the impact the offences had on the two girls. "An immediate prison sentence is inevitable," he said.

In addition to the custodial sentence, Wright must abide by the terms of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and register as a sex offender for life.
