Man jailed for sex offences against children - Banbury


A man appeared at Oxford Crown Court yesterday, Monday, 09 September 2013, and was jailed for four years for committing sexual offences against children.

James Phipps, aged 59, of Primrose Hill, Daventry, Northamptonshire, was found guilty on 26 July 2013, of two counts of gross indecency with a child, and two counts of indecently assaulting a child following a five-day trial by jury at Oxford Crown Court.

The charges relate to offences against two children aged between 10 and 14, which took place in Banbury between 1986 and 2000.

Phipps was sentenced to four years imprisonment for the counts of gross indecency, and 18 months imprisonment for the counts of indecent assault, which will run concurrently.  His name will go on the Sex Offenders' Register for an indefinite period, and he was made the subject of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO).
