Man jailed for sex offences - Aylesbury

A man appeared at Aylesbury Crown Court on Thursday, 15 May 2014, and was jailed for 22 years for sexual offences including rape.

John Peter Hallam, aged 65, of Black Butts Lane, Walney, Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, was sentenced yesterday after being found guilty of five counts of rape and three counts of indecent assault.

The offences were committed against one girl who was aged under 16 at the time of the offences, which occurred between 1979 and 1984 in Aylesbury.

The victim first reported the sexual abuse to police in 1984, but she withdrew her complaint after being put under pressure by John Hallam. The victim re-contacted Thames Valley Police in May 2012 and the case was re-investigated.

Judge Sheridan, presiding said: "This is the most serious case I have sat on in 30 years."
