Man jailed for rape - Aylesbury

A man appeared at Amersham Crown Court yesterday, Wednesday, 11 March 2015, and was jailed for a total of nine years for a rape and serious sexual assault in Aylesbury.

Daniel Higgins, aged 28, from Cambridge Street, Mexborough, South Yorkshire was sentenced after being found guilty by a jury of two counts of rape and one count of assault by penetration at Amersham Crown Court on Tuesday, 10 March 2015, after a 7-day trial.

In addition to the custodial sentence, Higgins must also sign the Sex Offenders' Register for life.

On 29 August 2014, shortly after 3am, Higgins approached an 18-year-old female outside the Mirage nightclub in Buckingham Street, Aylesbury while she was waiting for a taxi. He was not known to her and he took control of a vulnerable female who had been on a night out with friends.

He followed her into a taxi which they got out of near High Street, Aylesbury where he attacked her in a park before taking her back to a hotel and attacking her again. CCTV showed Higgins carrying the victim over his shoulder through the town centre and it was clear that the victim was unable to consent to sexual activity due to her condition.
