Man jailed for firearms offences - Reading

A 39-year-old man was today, Thursday, 16 May 2013, sentenced at Reading Crown Court to 15 years imprisonment after being found guilty of possessing firearms.

Salim Sabir, formerly of Exbourne Road, Reading, was convicted of 10 counts of possessing firearms/ammunition following a trial and was sentenced today.

He was initially arrested in July 2010 after firearms and ammunition were found in a flat in Tilehurst Road.

Items found included: a Baikel .380" pistol; an IMI Jericho 9mm pistol; a HS .22 revolver, a Mossberg 600 pump-action shotgun; a GSG .22 semi-automatic rifle; a sound moderator, and 158 rounds of ammunition.

Six days after these items were found, police officers recovered a Baby Browning .25" and more ammunition hidden under a bush in Rossington Place, Reading.

After being released on bail, Sabir fled to Canada. He was arrested there in late 2012 and subsequently returned to the UK and charged.
