Man jailed for firearm and harassment offences - Luton

An Albanian, who harassed his ex girlfriend after she left him because of his violence, sent her a photograph of himself holding a firearm and ammunition.

Samad Cokaj threatened to track the young woman down to Luton and kill her with the gun, Luton Crown Court was told on Friday, 11 September 2015.

She had changed her address and phone number to avoid him, but took his threat seriously because she had once seen a gun under his bed some months before, said James Marsland, prosecuting.

When she realised he had broken into her home and was waiting for her, she alerted police who arrested him.

Cokaj, aged 21, from Sneinton Boulevard, Nottingham was jailed for two years after pleading guilty to possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and putting a person in fear of violence by harassment.

Mr. Marsland said the couple, both from Albania, had begun a relationship in December last year, but he became controlling and violent the same month. When she left him he made threats to her and also threatened her family. Messages were posted on Facebook and the picture was sent in a WhatsApp message.

Recorder Rebecca Crane said: "She was genuinely scared for her life. She took the threat very seriously."
