Man jailed for distraction burglary - Borehamwood

A man appeared at St Albans Crown Court on Wednesday, 15 October 2014, and was jailed for two years and eight months for committing a distraction burglary at the home of an elderly woman in Borehamwood.

Patrick Myers, aged 33, of Yovel Road, Luton was sentenced after pleading guilty at an earlier hearing.

The incident occurred at 3.30pm on Monday, 01 September in Arundel Drive, Borehamwood.  Myers initially knocked at the victim's door and engaged her in conversation. A short time later he returned and knocked three times. The victim, a woman in her early 80s, did not want to answer her door or speak to him again. When she didn't answer, Myers forced entry and told the victim to leave the house as there was about to be an explosion. He then stole her purse before leaving.

Police attended immediately and Myers was located shortly after and arrested.

The investigation was led by the specialist team, Operation Manhunt, who investigate distraction burglary, rogue trading and burglary where the victim is aged 70 or over.
