Man jailed for attempting to rob teenager - Bedford

A drug addict, who manhandled and tried to rob a 15-year-old boy in Bedford, has today, Friday, 13 February 2015, been jailed for a year.

Ricky Fhalora had also robbed a man on his way to work a month before but had not been caught.

Fhalora, aged 27, appeared at Luton Crown Court via a video link from Bedford prison where he has been held on remand for the last three months.

Defence solicitor, Paul Orton, said Fhalora had problems with depression, alcohol and crack cocaine. He handed a letter to the judge from the defendant's family urging he be given help for his problems.

Fhalora, from Carrick Road, Bedford, pleaded guilty to robbery and attemped robbery.

Jollyon Robertson, prosecuting, said the robbery took place on 13 October last year as the victim was walking to work, and withdrew money from a cash machine. Fhalora was standing nearby and asked for cash and then threatened him. He reluctantly handed money over. He also saw Fhalora put his hand in his pocket and thought he was going to produce a knife.

On 11 November at about 9pm he accosted a 15-year-old boy in Church Lane, Bedford and demanded cash. He dragged him away from the road to a grass area and said he was going to knock him down and take his money. But the would be robber fled when people walked by. He was arrested the following day.

Recorder Derek Schofield told Fhalora: "Your first victim was afraid and the 15-year-old must have been terrified. You have an appalling record and these offences warrant an immediate sentence of custody."
